Leaping into the Abyss

Ten years ago, I leaped into the abyss of the unknown. I took a chance some would say ,but for me, it was a leap of faith. I left a secure ,well paid job with the benefits and retirement many people would die for to follow my dream. What was my dream ? to be my own "BOSS", to open my own business, so with two good friends , the dream became a reality. We called the business" On the Path , Holistic Health Center".


Now with the name of the business decided and ideas of what could be offered. I found myself wondering ,"what could I add to the mix?", one partner was trained in meditation and the other a Reike Master. How on earth could I offer a service to the community in the Holistic Health with a background in elementary education? I couldn't.

So, I set out to search for a skill in the Alternative/Holistic Health field. In my search I found many interesting alternative techniques to help people heal, including my two friends skills: energy work and meditation . At that time guided meditation and some forms of energy work like Reike were beginning to be recognized by mainstream medicine and media as viable ways to help with stress reduction and disease. Yeah!! As I continued my search , I found massage therapy was also being recommended, and I was very familiar with massage therapy. Actually all three of us used massage therapy for several years as our own means to reduce stress in our hectic lives. (I forgot to mention we were stilling working our full time jobs when we first opened the business. )Well, I am rambling and I need to move on with this intro , however, I believe you know where I am going with this, right?

Remember, I was an elementary teacher with a speciality in reading and language arts , not science. After 19 months of taking evening classes , week-end clinical's and taking the test from hell! I officially became a massage therapist.



However, this blog isn't about being a business owner ,or going to massage school. Although, I could write one on "What not to do when opening a business" and one on " Massage School is harder than you think " . This blog is about learning to have Faith in myself and how I discovered my "Contract with God".
